NVP International Summer School

An Interdisciplinary PhD and Postdoc Summer School

Summer School 2027

From 8 to 17 June 2027, NVP will host the second summer school in its renewed three-year programme. Building on the 2026 focus on the Global Arctic, the 2027 programme expands the perspective to explore the connections between the Arctic and the Himalayas.

Despite important differences, the two regions share many challenges related to climate change, natural resources and their global implications. Freshwater provides a particularly important link, alongside questions concerning energy and mineral resources, governance and legal frameworks, climate change adaptation, environmental protection, and geopolitical and security dynamics.

Through a Linked Poles perspective, the summer school will examine how changes in the Arctic and the Himalayas affect societies and environments far beyond these regions, and how shared knowledge, comparative perspectives and research collaboration can contribute to addressing future global challenges.

Applications for the NVP International Summer School 2027 will open in January 2027. More information will follow.
